Iomega Corp. today announced a desktop autoloader for small business backup and archival purposes. Called the Iomega REV Loader 280, the product provides access to 280 gigabytes of storage, managing up to eight removable 35 gigabyte REV disks.

Specifically designed for small businesses, the product connects to a server through a ISB 2.0 interface, simplifying its use as a backup and archive device for networked computers, at a cost far less than traditional SCSI-based tape drives. The product delivers automated, multi-disk data protection at a price similar to single tape drive products. CA BrightStor ARCserve Backup for Windows is bundled with the REV Loader 280, which includes support for disaster recovery.
The Iomega REV Loader 280 also has a small form factor--just 7 inches tall and 5 inches wide--and costs approximately half as much as competing automation tape products, according to the company.

The Iomega REV Loader 280 desktop autoloader will be available in early April at a price of approximately $1,000. Iomega REV 35-gigabyte disks are now available for $50 per disk in quantities of four.
